Proctored Testing

Student Guidelines

Scheduling: The only time students schedule directly with Learning Assessment Lab is for make up exams. Otherwise, scheduling is handled by faculty.

Make up exams may be scheduled for Saturday only. To schedule an appointment please go to the following URL: http://www.clt.odu.edu/lal/ and schedule as early as possible.

Faculty Guidelines

The Learning Assessment Lab administers tests/exams in a proctored environment. Old Dominion University faculty may schedule proctored testing for either an entire class or for a select number of make-up exams. However, the Learning Assessment Lab cannot proctor final exams. The Learning Assessment Lab also provides proctoring for Distance Learning Partner Organizations. For more information, please visit the following URL: http://www.clt.odu.edu/lal/ or contact the Learning Assessment Lab directly at 683-6104.

To obtain your preferred testing date(s) when scheduling tests for an entire class, please schedule well in advance. If you wish to reserve testing time for your students, please do the following:

  1. Visit the following URL: http://www.clt.odu.edu/lal/ or Call Patrick Steffen at 683-3170 or E-mail him at PSteffen@odu.edu in advance of the preferred test date.
  2. Schedule a date and time for the test. For instructors with class sizes greater than 300 students, you may schedule a two-day period. For class sizes less than 300 students, you may reserve the lab for one day.
  3. Please inform students of the test time, test location, and testing facility policies. The current semester schedule can be viewed here: http://www.clt.odu.edu/lal/.
  4. Arrange to have the test delivered to the Learning Assessment Lab at least two working days prior to the scheduled time.
  5. The first page of each copy of the exam should contain the following information (at a minimum): Instructor Name, Class, Special Instructions. (e.g., Prof. Jones, MEDT 309, this is a closed book exam, you may use a calculator).
  6. Students using the lab should be advised to show up at the time you have coordinated and scheduled with the Learning Assessment Lab. If you have a student taking a make-up exam, the student should contact the lab to schedule an appointment for this. All make-up exams must be completed on Saturday only.
  7. Students should also be advised to bring the following items to the Learning Assessment Lab. The Learning Assessment Lab can not provide these items for any student:
      • valid picture I.D.,
      • a #2 pencil, and
      • an appropriate Scantron sheet (when required).
      • We do not provide scratch paper.
